Electrify the Body

Electrify the Body club looked at electricity in the body. Teammates – undergraduate elementary teachers and biomedical engineers – collaborated to design experiences in which to connect electricity concepts to electricity in the body using an EKG – electrocardiogram probe.

The teammates designed experiences in which children explored static electricity, conductors/insulators, circuits, and the heart. For two consecutive Sundays, the team presented at Lincoln Children’s Museum as part of the inaugural STEAM Sunday. STEAM is science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The museum plans to launch the Sunday STEAM full time starting the first of 2016.

The challenge for this club was being prepared to teach children of all age ranges (1 – 99). On several occasions, the parents were jumping into the experience and asking questions.

Jenny Keshwani and I are pleased at how well the experience went and hope to continue doing similar outreach projects in the future. 🙂
